4-String
Tenor 'Ukulele Figured and Curly Hawaiian MILO wood back and sides. The spectacular beauty of Milo (pronounced Me-low) has been highly respected throughout Hawaiian history. Rich brown and red colors combine with delicate lacey curls of grain. To the ancient Hawaiians, MILO and Kou (now replaced by Koa as the most common Hawaiian wood) were the most valuable and colorful woods used for furniture, canoes, paddles, and bowls. We were able to acquire and cut a small amount of this beautifully grained instrument grade lumber, harvested from trees here on the island of Oahu. The top and back of this instrument are bound with Premium Curly Koa, with the addition of a Curly Koa back strip. MILO wood back and sides produce a very deep bass resonance, and for optimum tone clarity and volume projection, the top soundboard was made from select, master grade Alaskan Spruce. Top purfling is alternate strips of black and white inlays, and then an abalone shell rosette around the soundhole. Fingerboard and bridge are ebony and bridge pins are perfectly polished ebony with pearl inlay dots. Nut and saddle are made of bone. Neck wood is hand selected, quartersawn Mahogany with Curly Koa fingerboard binding and offset pearl position markers. Face plate is ebony with our pearl Ko'olau logo inlay. Grover geared gold tuners, with ebony wood buttons, and of course, final set-up is with our own "Ko'olau Gold" strings (wound gold 4th). Final finishing is a hand rubbed, high gloss lacquer. Includes
a Hardshell Case. |
