Kolohala (Pheasant Wood)
|
We are offering a new local Hawaiian wood in our line of custom instruments, “Kolohala” wood, commonly known as pheasant wood. This very rare, valuable, and stuningly beautiful wood produces shades of light to dark brown with fine black grain, which very much resembles the feathers of our local Hawaiian pheasant. Kolohala wood has a medium weight and density, stable in structure, and thus perfect for guitars and ukuleles. The Kolohala back and sides have been combined with our finest grained Alaskan Spruce giving this instrument a very wide tonal range. Exceptionally deep resonant bass tones and excellent clarity and projection. Slotted head, three piece ebony/maple neck with gold tuners. Ebony faceplate with pearl logo, Ebony fingerboard with side pearl position dots only. Pin type bridge with perfectly polished ebony/pearl inlay bridge pins. Wood marquetry rope purfling with ebony wood binding on top and back. Bone nut and saddle. High gloss lacquer finish.
