Kolohala

We are happy to inform our customers that we have finally found a limited supply of one of our favorite local woods, Kolohala, which in Hawaiian is defined as "Pheasant" due to the beautiful grain patterns that resemble the feathers of our local Kolohala bird.  Besides the beauty of this wood, the tonal properties rival any of the finest woods we have ever used.  And customers who have purchased Ko'olau instruments made of Kolohala are also proud of owning a guitar or ukulele made of a very rare and valuable Hawaiian wood. As with Koa, Kolohala is not known to be growing anywhere outside of Hawaiian Islands.

This very rare, valuable, and stuningly beautiful wood produces shades of light to dark brown with fine black grain, which very much resembles the feathers of our local Hawaiian pheasant.

Kolohala wood has a medium weight and density, stable in structure, and thus perfect for guitars and ukuleles.
