Tim Mann
Tim Mann has been a performing singer-songwriter and guitarist for nearly 20 years. When he took up the ukulele however, his career was given a second life. Inspired by his musical and spiritual hero, George Harrison, Tim began playing ukulele in 2003. Soon he met fellow musician Greg Hawkes (The Cars), who was also an avid uke enthusiast. They formed a duo and began playing ukulele shows around the Greater Boston area. The following year Greg and Tim became founding members of New England's 'Ukulele Noir', led by Craig Robertson. With ‘Ukulele Noir', Tim was able to perform in a variety of venues and travel the East Coast, introducing the uke to more and more fascinated people. In 2006, Greg and Tim opened for ukulele wizard Jake Shimabukuro, himself a huge fan of George Harrison. Tim has also begun teaching ukulele lessons, and has built of steady student base, with pupils ranging in age from 7 to 70. In 2008 Tim released his CD 'Distant Strangers' featuring a mix of guitar and ukulele originals. With promotion for the CD being targeted in Scandinavia and Northern Europe, Tim is now able to send his uke vibe around the globe. Tim is already in the planning stages of his next CD, an album of all ukulele songs.
In late summer 2008, Tim will be performing as part of 'Uketopia'; an eclectic array of uke players featuring Jumpin' Jim Beloff and some of New England's finest strummers. Tim will also be on the bill for Ukestock '08, in Worcester,MA alongside many of the best uke players in the Northeast. In addition, Tim's ukulele song, 'Thru The Day' was chosen to be included on the acoustic compilation CD, 'East Coast Chill Out', released by Quickstar Productions.
